The Sea
I wonder if Red ran on all fours in his dreams. I run on all fours. I usually start on two and then to gain speed, I’m on all fours and covering ground in record time. I’ve often thought it was my love of riding, but I know it’s more. Horse racing for Red was just that—more.
When I saw this black and white image of Red and Seabiscuit, I needed to bring it to life. I added the color to it and experienced an overwhelming sense of peace…or was it a calm?Contentment. That feeling of having enough. Knowing everything is OKAY.
The background needed to compliment the feeling and have meaning. and found that the ranch Seabiscuit spent most of his life just made sense.
Then I wanted to gift this to Patty. I wanted to show her what I saw when I read her poetry. You see, Norah Pollard is one of my mom’s oldest friends. They met in high school in 1960s and have stayed in touch ever since. We were honored to have her read at our wedding and while the world knows her as Norah, the acclaimed poet and daughter of Red Pollard, I know her as Patty. A role model of timeless, true friendship.
